Animation toy thaumatrope. One of the first animated toys. It was especially popular in the Victorian era.
It is a disc with pictures on both sides. When the disc rotates, images merge into one.
The set contains:
- Box made of 3mm plywood
- 12 toys made of laminated cardboard
Brand New Model. Released in 2020 in an edition of 100 copies.
This set is a replica of a antique 19th century toy.
All images in the set are copied from ancient paintings.
Original set was released in 1830 in France by Alphonse Giroux.

A thaumatrope is an optical toy that was popular in the 19th century. A disk with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string. When the strings are twirled quickly between the fingers the two pictures appear to blend into one. Effect of the thaumatrope became an important discovery.
